How to play Stars and Jokers- a beginners guide

There are a total of 52 cards in a deck- 13 in each of the 4 suits (hearts, clubs, diamonds, spades) and 2 jokers. The aim of the game is to collect as many cards as possible until you can go out. The player who collects the most cards wins the game.

To begin, each player is dealt 10 cards, face down. The player who is left of the dealer begins the game and the turn passes clockwise. On a player's turn, they must draw one card from the deck and then play one. Cards of the same rank (e.g. 2 of clubs) are equal and can be played together. If both players have a card of the same rank, whoever plays their card first wins the trick. The Ace is high and can be played either as 1 or 14 depending on what is most advantageous to the player. The 2 is low and can only be played as 2.

The remaining 4 cards are called the 'kitty'. The player who takes these cards must put them away and cannot use them in their hand. They are then replenished so that each player once again has 10 cards.

The aim of the game is to collect as many winning tricks as possible until you can go out. A winning trick consists of 4 cards of the same rank (e.g, four kings). If you cannot play any other card, you must pick up all of the cards in the trick (including your own) and add them to your hand. When you have collected enough winning tricks to go out (4 or more), announce it clearly to all players and place your final card on top of the stack to indicate that you have won (see image below).
